About Us

Welcome to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Japan

USDA is represented in Japan by the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and the Animal, Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. USDA also has an FAS office in the U.S. Consulate in Osaka.

The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS)

About The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS)

FAS works to improve foreign market access for U.S. agricultural, forestry and fishery products, build new markets, improve the competitive position of U.S. agriculture in the global marketplace, and provide food aid and technical assistance to foreign countries. The Tokyo Agricultural Affairs Office is responsible for trade policy and commodity analysis, and assists with market access and technical phytosanitary issues.

The Agricultural Trade Offices (ATO)

About The Agricultural Trade Offices (ATO)

The Agricultural Trade Offices (ATO) work directly with U.S. companies to help them gain the knowledge and contacts needed to begin exporting to Japan. ATO also sponsors activities to introduce companies handling U.S. products to key Japanese retailers, food service and food processing companies, coordinate U.S. participation in trade shows, and otherwise serves as a window to the Japanese market for U.S. companies.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)

About The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is responsible for protecting and promoting U.S. agricultural health, administering the Animal Welfare Act, and carrying out wildlife damage management activities.
The APHIS mission is an integral part of U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) efforts to provide the U.S. public with safe and affordable food.
