Status of U.S. Beef Sales:

FAS/Tokyo estimates, based on trade-reported figures, show that Japan will import about 10,000 MT of beef in CY 2006 worth nearly $50 million. This is a fraction of the $2.4 billion level in previous years. Only U.S. beef from cattle 20 months and younger is allowed into Japan and only a small percentage of the cattle slaughtered in the United States meet this requirement. . (12/22/06)
